Removing paint from plastic cabinets is not as hard a chore as it may appear. Using a solvent to soften the paint makes removal easy and lessens the chance of damaging the plastic. Rubbing alcohol eats through paint without damaging plastic, making it one of the best and inexpensive ways to remove paint from plastic surfaces.
Place old towels below the plastic cabinets to catch and absorb any drips from the rubbing alcohol.
Scrape the cabinets gently with a putty knife to remove any loose pieces of paint.
Wet a clean rag with rubbing alcohol, and wipe onto the paint on the plastic cabinets. Saturate the paint on the cabinets with the rubbing alcohol, and make sure to cover the entire surface.
Cover the paint on the plastic cabinets with plastic saran wrap. Start the plastic at the top of the cabinet, and run it down to the bottom. Cut the plastic wrap off, and secure at the bottom of the cabinet. The plastic wrap keeps the rubbing alcohol from evaporating and allows it to soften the paint. Allow the plastic wrap to remain on the cabinets for one hour.
Remove the plastic wrap, and wipe the paint from the cabinets with old damp towels or rags. Replace each towel or rag as you continue to wipe the paint from the plastic cabinets.
Wash the cabinets with warm sudsy water, and rinse thoroughly after removing all paint residue. Dry cabinets with a clean cloth.
